I have read around about which drive I should buy and about the physical process of fitting it, so I am ready for that. So, I think the hard drive has died, and must be replaced (please tell me if from the above you can better diagnose the fault, or if there is anything else I should try) Attempting to re-install Mavericks fails as soon as the download starts and tries to address the hard disk. Disk Utility and fsck flag hard drive faults that they cannot fix. It won't boot into OS X (Mavericks is installed), getting stuck after the login screen and eventually turning itself off. It is a Mid 2010 21.5inch iMac, EMC no 2389. This being a waste of a good computer, I have set about trying to fix it. Compatible with a white plastic body 13' Macbook Unibody A1342 from late 2009 to mid 2010. Note: The plastic upper case and power button face are not included. I am recently arrived in a new job where in one office sits a broken iMac. Replace a damaged, dirty, corroded, or malfunctioning keyboard and internal power button switch.
